New California Collegiate Wrestling Program for 2012/13 Season

This is refreshing to hear after so much negative press about wrestling faltering in California.

New California Collegiate Wrestling Program for 2012/13 Season

Simpson University, in Redding, California, has decided to throw their hat into the wrestling ring next year. After several months of discussions, the university board voted the week before Christmas to add wrestling to their athletic team list. And, after 28 years as the head coach at Anderson High School, I have been asked to take the helm of the Red Hawks’ program.

Simpson is a Christian University of liberal arts and professional studies. We will compete in the Cal-Pac Conference and the NAIA National level. This is a fully-funded program with a generous amount of scholarship monies. We will have a competitive schedule from the start.

Now comes the fun part– recruiting and building a team. I truly believe we can be very competitive at the NAIA National level in a short time. The number of outstanding wrestlers out there far exceeds the number of colleges with wrestling. I am looking for young men who are serious about their wrestling and academics, who can compete well at the NAIA level, and who have a strong moral character.

Redding is a small city in beautiful Northern California– an ideal place to live, continue your schooling, and wrestle. If you are someone who feels like Simpson could be a good fit for you, or if you know of a young man who could excel here, please contact me ASAP. Coaches, I am looking to you for recommendations. Please email me at dwilliams@auhsd.net

I’m hoping you will help me make the California wrestling community proud!
